Title: Data Management Analyst

The Department

The Investment Operations department supports Investment Management across the full range of Equity and Fixed Income product lines, providing middle office functions and interfacing between front office and the outsource providers. The department is divided into three teams (Data Management, Trade Management and Investment Administration) and is part of the wider Operations function which includes Fund Control, TPA Service Oversight, Performance Measurement, Transitions and Operations Strategy.

Data Management is a large team with a global remit, coordinating activities across London, Asia and US offices responsible for the quality of Investment data including Asset (Equity/FI ETD & OTC Derivative), Fund/Account (Retail, Institutional and Hedge), Counterparty/Broker & Periodic/Reporting data across core systems and IT architecture. The team also covers OTC valuation, Fair Value Pricing, pricing oversight, Position and Market Value reconciliations and is currently engaged in multiple high profile projects across the business. Key clients include Fund Managers, Dealers, Risk and Compliance. We have key relationships with Janus Henderson Trade Management, Fund Control/Administration, operations and support teams and with Third Party Administrators and outsourced providers whose services we oversee.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To ensure that the data used by Fund Managers and other internal / external clients & functions is of high quality, with particular focus on FI products

  • Implementation of Data Governance as set out by the Data Governance structure

  • Prioritise workload according to the requirements of clients (internal and external) of the Data Management team through an understanding of how data is utilised and alignment of resources to growth products

  • Check and monitor inbound TPA data for accuracy

  • Work with Markit EDM to maximise efficiencies and improve service to clients

  • Work to ensure data is collected efficiently and cost effectively

  • Take responsibility for ensuring accurate asset valuations across the TPAs and across the asset classes e.g. Cash Securities and Derivatives

  • Awareness in fair value asset valuations

  • Consider data issues across Janus Henderson in order to constantly improve the quality of data within the firm

  • Escalate known data efficiencies outside of the immediate remit of the team

  • Work closely with Trade Management to achieve and maintain high trade STP rates

  • Support New Instruments with Fund Managers and Dealers from an end-to-end processing perspective

  • Periodically review team processes and tasks to ensure they are fit for purpose, optimal and that they continually adopt the Operations Principles

  • Submit business cases to streamline and improve data processes

  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external functions e.g. TPAs, IT Market Data Manager, Fund Management, Fund Control, Operations Strategy, Business Change, Trade Management, Investment Administration, Transitions etc.

  • Produce quality Management Information to report and improve data cleanliness for internal consumers of the data

  • Provide oversight of JHI TPA’s in accordance with agreed governance and manage them to adhere to the outsourced model providing support for the development of long term strategic relationships

Technical Skills and Qualifications

  • Use of Markit EDM

  • Knowledge of FI assets

  • OTC derivative valuation experience

  • Knowledge of Pricing of all assets types

  • Knowledge of end to end Trade Processing work flows

  • Knowledge of NAV production work flow

  • Expert user of Excel (Macros / VBA)

  • Experience of asset creation
