The Proposal Writer plays a key role in asset generation and client retention by developing compelling proposals and client materials aimed at executing on sales and client service objectives. The Proposal Writer is responsible for managing the proposal process in its entirety, serving as writer, project manager and search/tender champion. The Proposal Writer will collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization and, as necessary, with key external constituents, including consultants, clients and prospects. The Proposal Writer partners with key stakeholders enterprise-wide - including Legal, Compliance, Investments, Product Management/Development, Sales - to ensure proper positioning and messaging of the firm’s products, staff, protocols and services in proposal and client materials, which include RFIs, RFPs, DDQs and other client materials. The Proposal Writer effectively manages projects to completion, adhering to strict deadlines.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates compelling and impactful proposals that properly message firm and product capabilities and competitive advantages

  • Assists in the RFP vetting process, partnering with Sales as appropriate

  • Tailors standard content for customization based on unique client/prospect requirements

  • Self-edits work

  • Collaborates with key business partners enterprise-wide including, but not limited to, Portfolio Management, Sales, Marketing, Trading, Legal, Compliance, Tax, Finance, Public Relations, Portfolio Analytics, Information Technology and Human Resources in order to accurately construct detailed responses to new and atypical question sets

  • Remains apprised of firm/product developments

  • Contributes effective content to content management system

  • Seeks opportunities to add value, enhance processes/procedures, improve content, etc.

  • Conducts complex data analysis and incorporates data into proposal materials as appropriate

  • Builds and maintains relationships with Subject Matter Experts across the firm to facilitate strong partnership during the proposal development process

  • Oversees and completes complex data analysis. Regularly interacts with Sales personnel to coordinate and execute strategy in completing Requests for Proposal on products offered by Janus Henderson and its subsidiaries.Other FunctionsAssumes additional duties as assignedSupervisory Responsibilities

Technical Skills and Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of and previous experience in the institutional investment management business

  • Strong knowledge of the RFP process and experience in developing compelling proposal materials

  • Ability to effectively manage complex projects to successful completion

  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, proactive and resourceful

  • Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines

  • Previous content management system experience (e.g., Qvidian)

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Strong editing and proofreading skills

  • Excellent organization and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Analytical and problem solving skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat

  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; preferably in Finance, English, Journalism or Communications

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3 years writing experience in the investment management industry

  • 3 years of experience in financial services

Ongoing competence in the role to be assessed by:

  • Annual Performance Appraisal

  • Completion of all assigned Compliance training

Working Environment/Physical Activities

• Overtime may be required on short notice and may include evening, weekend, holiday hours

• Typical office environment with telephone, copier, fax machine, calculator, etc.

• PC usage up to 90 of the time

• Ability to travel on a limited basis, if needed
